This is it! These are the 4.9 GHz comments that will tip the scales in PSSA/FirstNet’s favor at the FCC. A Bert Norton recently advised the FCC that he supports “the position and comments of the Public Safety Spectrum Alliance (PSSA). The 4.9 GHz spectrum should remain solely for the use of public safety. I am opposed to sharing this spectrum with commercial users and dispersing the management out to the states. The most logical step to take is to put it in the stewardship of the FirstNet Authority. As such, I encourage the FCC to take immediate action on the Petition for Reconsideration, in addition to lifting the freeze on 4.9 GHz licensing.” I fear that Mr. Norton’s pleas may be relegated to the FCC’s comment abyss as it is customary and helpful to advise the FCC who you are, where you are and why you have an interest in the 4.9 GHz proceeding. Mr. Nelson provided no such information. However, a little Google research revealed that Mr. Norton may be the same Fire Chief at the Midwest City Fire Department in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I doubt that this is a coincidence. So that Chief Norton’s comments are not for naught, someone should advise Chief Norton to introduce himself to the FCC and note that he was the author of these comments. There is still time.
