EWA and AFTRCC Execute Concurrence Process Agreement

June 1, 2016

The Enterprise Wireless Alliance (EWA) and the Aerospace and Flight Test Radio Coordinating Council, Inc.® (AFTRCC®) have executed an MBAN Concurrence Process Agreement that will govern coordination protocols between the parties for the registration and coordination of medical body area networks (MBAN) operating in the 2360-2390 MHz band. These networks will be used for wireless patient monitoring in hospitals and health care facilities, and will share this band with Aeronautical Mobile Telemetry (AMT) operations. MBANs will transmit patient health data over a short range at very low power levels and are range-restricted to indoor use at health-care facilities.

Designated as the national coordinator for MBAN deployments by the Federal Communications Commission, EWA will work closely with health care facilities, MBAN vendors and AFTRCC, the FCC-designated coordinator for AMT operations, to ensure compliance with FCC rules and policies governing MBAN deployment opportunities, including the protection of primary AMT facilities from the possibility of MBAN interference. EWA’s MBAN registration and database site (www.MBANRegistration.org) will launch in early June 2016.

About AFTRCC
AFTRCC is the association of aerospace manufacturers founded in 1954 to protect safety-related, flight test telemetry and voice frequencies from harmful interference.  Besides serving as the aerospace industry’s advocate in spectrum policy matters affecting flight testing,  AFTRCC coordinates the use of frequencies within and adjacent to AMT allocations in order to minimize the risk of interference to sensitive AMT operations.  AFTRCC works closely with government area frequency coordinators in carrying out these coordination responsibilities.  Additional information about AFTRCC is available at www.aftrcc.org.

  • Using Spectrum Intel has been a game-changer for us. The platform is incredibly user-friendly, and the Market Area Reports have automated many tasks that we previously had to do manually, reducing delays of getting time sensitive data out to our sales team. The search functionality is impressively fast, and it’s clear that EWA is committed to continuous improvement, making the tool even more useful and intuitive. Highly recommend!

  • The advocacy and regulatory issues are very important to our business, and, without EWA, we would have no voice. Nobody is speaking up for players like us in Washington except EWA.

  • It’s not just about finding frequencies. It’s about finding the RIGHT frequencies for that customer, and EWA excels every time at that. We would not be moving forward without EWA.

  • It’s remarkable what we’ve been able to do with EWA’s support. It’s a collaborative effort that has allowed Midland to deliver unparalleled support to our customers. No one else has the depth of understanding of FCC rules, which has resulted in more application grants. Midland Communications has a profound appreciation for EWA’s advocacy efforts. It has allowed us to have a voice before the FCC.

  • A Beep has been a happy customer of Spectrum Intel since its launch. It’s easy to use, the information is much more accessible, and the service includes extra features that other license activity reporting services don’t have. Spectrum Intel saves my team time each week.

  • We use EWA for all of our FCC license applications. The staff at EWA provide outstanding customer service and do all they can to see that applications are granted. EWA does a super job of staying on top of situations that affect our ability to file license applications and serve customers. EWA’s Regulatory Call keeps us informed about what is happening with the FCC and their online systems.
