Day Wireless Systems
I am at a loss to understand why APCO would want to duplicate Federal Licensing’s notorious strategy of contacting licensees and warning them of dire consequences should they fail to confirm with the FCC that their new radio system is constructed and operational. “We (APCO) are notifying you because failure to meet this requirement may result in the FCC terminating part or all of your license(s) … Mention this email and get a 10% discount off AFC’s construction/buildout fee. Members receive additional discounts.”
Who knows the motivation to compete against the likes of Federal Licensing? Why would APCO risk its well-respected public safety reputation by soliciting this kind of business, including in the Industrial/Business space? I can’t believe they need to generate an additional source of income from non-public safety licensees. The APCO communication that was shared with EWA referred to a license that met all FCC filing requirements nine months ago. Federal Licensing doesn’t care who they hit or whether their communications make any sense. APCO should. Maybe EWA should send a communication to public safety licensees noting that they have a requirement to terminate licenses for systems, or frequencies and sites, that have not been operational for over a year. Just kidding APCO. We won’t. After all, it’s not our sandbox.
