Annual Silent Auction Raises $3,400 for EWA-Joseph B. Vestal Endowed Scholarship Fund

October 20, 2016

October 20, 2016 (Herndon, VA) – Business owners and executives serving the private wireless industry raised over $3,400 for the EWA-Joseph B. Vestal Endowed Scholarship fund at Old Dominion University (ODU). The scholarship supports students working toward degrees in fields of study related to the wireless industry. Funds were raised through individual donations and a silent auction held in early October, during the Wireless Leadership Summit, an annual conference for industry executives.

“The future of the private wireless industry depends on scholars exploring the professional opportunities available to them within our industry,” said EWA President Mark Crosby. “The EWA-Joseph B. Vestal Scholarship supports students interested in a career in wireless and honors the lifelong achievements of Joseph Vestal, a distinguished alumnus of ODU.”

“We are very thankful to the exhibitors who donated auction items. Each year they up the ante by donating high-value items that attract bidders,” said EWA Executive Director of Membership and Marketing Sarah Beerbower. “This year, we achieved a new record of funds raised during the Wireless Leadership Summit.”

The scholarship, established by the Enterprise Wireless Alliance (EWA), an FCC-certified frequency advisory committee and leading advocate for business enterprises that rely on wireless communications systems, awards financial aid to full-time ODU students enrolled in Electrical Engineering Technology or Information Systems Management studies who intend to pursue careers in wireless applications or telecommunications. • It’s remarkable what we’ve been able to do with EWA’s support. It’s a collaborative effort that has allowed Midland to deliver unparalleled support to our customers. No one else has the depth of understanding of FCC rules, which has resulted in more application grants. Midland Communications has a profound appreciation for EWA’s advocacy efforts. It has allowed us to have a voice before the FCC.

  • It’s not just about finding frequencies. It’s about finding the RIGHT frequencies for that customer, and EWA excels every time at that. We would not be moving forward without EWA.

  • We use EWA for all of our FCC license applications. The staff at EWA provide outstanding customer service and do all they can to see that applications are granted. EWA does a super job of staying on top of situations that affect our ability to file license applications and serve customers. EWA’s Regulatory Call keeps us informed about what is happening with the FCC and their online systems.

  • A Beep has been a happy customer of Spectrum Intel since its launch. It’s easy to use, the information is much more accessible, and the service includes extra features that other license activity reporting services don’t have. Spectrum Intel saves my team time each week.

  • The advocacy and regulatory issues are very important to our business, and, without EWA, we would have no voice. Nobody is speaking up for players like us in Washington except EWA.
