The Enterprise Wireless Alliance (EWA) has announced that Jacob Wilson, a student at Old Dominion University (ODU), will receive the EWA-Joseph B. Vestal Endowed Scholarship for the 2017 Spring Term. The scholarship awards financial aid to a full-time student at ODU enrolled in Electrical Engineering Technology or Information Systems Management who intends to pursue a professional career in wireless applications or telecommunications.
EWA established the scholarship in honor of Joseph B. Vestal, a Distinguished Alumni of ODU (class of 1960), for his innovation and entrepreneurial contributions to the wireless industry. “I support the mission and the purpose of the scholarship to foster participation in the wireless world,” said Joseph B. Vestal. “Jacob’s application was indicative of a bright mind, motivated to succeed. I was impressed by his thought process and maturity,” he continued.
The private wireless industry comes together in support of the scholarship, donating funds through a silent auction held each year at the Wireless Leadership Summit, a conference of executives in the private wireless industry. “EWA and its members are committed to encouraging students to explore career opportunities in the wireless and telecommunications industries,” said EWA President Mark Crosby. “The scholarship supports the goal of fostering a new generation of professionals,” he continued.
EWA is an FCC-certified frequency advisory committee that provides license preparation, spectrum management and associated services to business enterprises, private carriers, public safety entities and wireless sales and service organizations. Membership within EWA is open to users of wireless communications systems, vendors, system operators and service organizations. Additional information about membership and services is available at www.enterprisewireless.org.
