Old Dominion University Student to Receive EWA-Vestal Scholarship

October 7, 2015

October 7, 2015 (Herndon, VA) –The Enterprise Wireless Alliance (EWA), a leading advocate for business enterprises that rely on wireless communications systems, today announced that Jerel Miles has been selected to receive the EWA-Joseph B. Vestal Scholarship. The scholarship awards financial aid to a full-time student at Old Dominion University (ODU) enrolled in Electrical Engineering Technology or Information Systems Management who intends to pursue a professional career in wireless applications or telecommunications.

EWA established the scholarship at ODU to honor alumnus Joseph B. Vestal, named one of the Distinguished Alumni of ODU (class of 1960), for his innovation and entrepreneurial contributions to the wireless industry.

“The wireless industry, like many other industries in the United States, is facing a possible shortage of skilled talent. For that reason, and to honor a former board member, EWA established the Vestal scholarship,” said EWA President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Crosby. “The scholarship is funded by the entire wireless industry, and we are grateful for that support,” he continued.

Among other sources, funds for the scholarship come from donations to a silent auction, held each year at the Wireless Leadership Summit. The 2015 auction will take place October 7-8 at the W Atlanta-Midtown.

On learning that he was awarded the scholarship, Mr. Miles said, “I want establish myself in a telecommunication or engineering based firm that potentially will lead to a permanent career.”

  • A Beep has been a happy customer of Spectrum Intel since its launch. It’s easy to use, the information is much more accessible, and the service includes extra features that other license activity reporting services don’t have. Spectrum Intel saves my team time each week.

  • It’s remarkable what we’ve been able to do with EWA’s support. It’s a collaborative effort that has allowed Midland to deliver unparalleled support to our customers. No one else has the depth of understanding of FCC rules, which has resulted in more application grants. Midland Communications has a profound appreciation for EWA’s advocacy efforts. It has allowed us to have a voice before the FCC.
