Herndon, Virginia - In a letter filed yesterday with the FCC, the Enterprise Wireless Alliance reminded the FCC that a number of the severe interference issues resulting from the DTV transition that were initially reported to the Commission in 2020 and again in 2021 remain unresolved, and there has been no response from the FCC regarding several proposed action items. As part of the repacking process, the FCC established a reduced minimum separation between co-channel and adjacent channel full-power DTV stations and PLMR T-Band markets. This closer spacing presumably was adopted to create more opportunities for DTV channel assignments in the smaller TV allocation. While those closer distances have proven adequate in several areas, they have resulted in harmful interference in Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Miami, and New York with devastating effect on PLMR business, industrial, private carrier and public safety systems.
EWA asked the FCC to convene a task force to include representatives of the DTV and PLMR T-Band stations involved, to investigate solutions that would enable both types of licensees to have appropriate use of the spectrum assigned to them.
